Give Yourself a Break!
Not in a self-absorbed, “I’m the Queen of the World” way, but thoughtfully, and with compassion. Mindful leaders (and, yes that includes YOU) know the benefit of breaks, boundaries, and balance. If you’re struggling with this, I can help.
I hear from so many clients that their normal is to push through fatigue, mindlessly eat lunch while answering emails, and then go home and numb out with Netflix, pinot, or cookie dough. Working long hours is rewarded in our culture. But is it working for YOU? Studies show that after 90 minutes of sustained attention or activity, our productivity actually starts decreasing.
Try this – set a timer for 30 minutes (or any number less than 90) and when it goes off:
- Get up and move around
- Go outside and feel the sun on your face
- Feel your feet on the floor and take 5 deep breaths
- Check in with your body – are you hungry? Thirsty?
Self-attention is not selfish. What could shift for you if you take time for a break?
